I have been coaching my girls' team for several years. They first make a difference playing with tremendous sportsmanship. (To be honest, we play against several teams in our age group who all embody the same ideals.) Our girls are friends with their fiercest opponents. They embody how sports should be played. Additionally, in late 2018 they spent a day preparing shoe box Christmas gifts for a women's shelter, wrapping the boxes like beautiful presents, stuffed with both essentials and "goodies" for women who could appreciate the holiday wishes. The girls took this to a really high level, taking personal pride while having fun doing so, writing personal notes to the recipients. Then, right after Christmas, they spent an afternoon (after practice!) sorting food for the Daily Bread Food Bank (which is where the attached photo was taken). They care about each other, and have learned that sports is a great way to learn to be a great adult. With kids like them growing up to be adults in our community, we have much to be proud of.
